Professional InformationJennifer Thomas has 19 years of experience within the levels K-5 elementary education. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Henderson State University, a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership: Curriculum and Instruction track from the University of Central Arkansas and a certification in administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 2013, Mrs. Thomas became certified to teach Gifted and Talented for grades Pre-k - 12. She holds National Board Certification in Early Childhood.
Mrs. Thomas was previously the STEM/Gifted Education specialist at Bale Elementary where she helped convert a regular classroom into a STEM/GT lab for students in grades K-5. She spent four years as a literacy coach where she contributed to maintaining the schools success rate. Six years of her career was as a second grade teacher at Carver Math and Science Magnet. During her career, she has received extensive training and experience in literacy and curriculum development. She also coordinated the district Summer Enrichment program for the three years it was in operation, which focused on critical thinking, creativity, and thematic unit lessons. Mrs. Thomas served on the science curriculum development team for the LRSD Science department in the 2015/2016 school year. In May of 2016, Mrs. Thomas became ESL Endorsed. In the summer of 2016 , 2017 and 2018, Mrs. Thomas served as the curriculum coordinator for the LRSD GT SPARK Summer Learning Academy. Mrs. Thomas has written and/or collaborated on several grants for her school including: 21st CCLC Y.E.S. program, Fresh Fruit and Veggie grant, Cultural Kaleidoscope grant, and an environmental grant through EPA to provide STEM education to her gifted and talented students. She received the Teaching Excellence award from the Pulaski Heights Lions Club in 2007 and the 2014 STEM Champion Award through the ISEA (International STEM Education Association). Mrs. Thomas has also completed the districts Leadership Academy (Cohort III) and she has certificates for Leadership Coaching for High Performance at the first and second Level. In 2018, Mrs. Thomas was honored to receive the Educator Recognition Award through AGATE. In addition to her role as a GT Facilitator with LRSD, Mrs. Thomas is also the Secondary G/T Coordinator for LRSD. |
